Mammoth Cave

In August 2024, I visited Mammoth Cave National Park. You could say this was my 17th national park. However, I had visited this park as a kid with my family, but I wanted to go again. I camped in Mammoth Cave for a quick little weekend getaway. I stayed at the Mammoth Cave campground. This campground is a five minute walk away from the visitor center. It costs $25 a night, and they have bathrooms here as well.

I did a few different tours while I was there. I did the Extended Historic Tour, Domes and Dripstones Tour, and Frozen Niagara Tour. These tours are all ranger guided. The park rangers tell you about the history of the park and the different cave formations. These guided tours do cost anywhere from $26-30. The Extended Historic Tour is 2.5 hours long and 2 miles of walking. The Domes and Dripstones Tour starts in a sinkhole, passing through domes, and ends at the Frozen Niagara.

After visiting the caves, I did a short trail called Sloan’s Crossing Pond Trail. This trail is 0.4 mile. The pond was created by a sinkhole above the cave system.

Thanks for coming along with me to another national park. I know this post was very short compared to my other ones. I had spent most of my time exploring the caves instead of hiking. See y’all on the next adventure.

Yours truly,

Crews In The Wild
